THE GREAT AND HIGH MOUNTAIN

Back

Isaiah 25

3. Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee.
4. For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
5. Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
6. And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.
7. And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations.
8. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.
9. And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

Verse 35 is the dream that was revealed to Daniel.

Daniel 2

35. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth......

Verses 44-45 are the interpretation of that dream, that the stone (Jesus) became a great mountain and filled the earth is in fact his government.

44. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
45. Forasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold.....

Here you have the same scenario in Isaiah as the two verses above in Daniel. Jesus the descendant of Jessie heading a government that exercises dominion in the earth.

Isaiah 11

1. And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
3. And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4. But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.......
9. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
10. And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

If you indeed have an accurate picture of history and can see the government of Gods influence in the earth then you can see in this verse below that just as God said it would law and the word of the Lord  proceeded forth into the earth from Christ in Jerusalem and continues to proceed forth now through his people the heavenly Jerusalem.

Isaiah 2

2. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

One might say of  verse 3 above that this hasn't happened yet. Well to that I say that he does indeed judge and rebuke nations, and hundreds of millions of people that have obeyed the gospel from the heart have indeed forsaken their warlike hatred and strife ridden ways. Remember when Jesus said the Kingdom of God comes not as an earthly visible kingdom but instead comes to and through the heart of individuals? (Luke 17 :20-21). When these individuals are large in number and influence they do indeed create  more just and righteous civilizations. Things like cannibalism, real idolatry, slavery, human sacrifice that where practiced by large civilizations have been totally forsaken and outlawed by large portions of the world through the influence of the gospel. My point is that this mountain that fills the whole earth is a process rather than an event. Bible prophecy and teaching, and history testify to this and it is the duty of every generation to do their part along side God to continue this process by preaching the gospel and making disciples of Christ of whole nations according to to Jesus' commandment in:

Matthew 28

 18. And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
